Johann Sebastian Bach: Partita for Violin | BWV 1004 d-moll | 180g | LP | Vinyl Record

Daniel Pioro, one of the most talented violists of the young generation, plays Johann Sebastian Bach's Partita No. 2 in D minor for solo violin. The LP includes a booklet with photos of Bach's original recording (from the Berlin State Library), as well as an essay by the soloist about the work.

The Partita in D minor for solo violin (BWV 1004) by Johann Sebastian Bach was written between 1717 and 1720. It is a part of his compositional cycle called Sonatas and Partitas for Solo Violin.

Structure:

  1. Allemanda
  2. Corrente
  3. Sarabanda
  4. Giga
  5. Ciaccona

Except for the ciaccona, the movements are dance types of the time, and they are frequently listed by their French names: Allemanda, Corrente, Sarabanda, Giga and Ciaccona. The final movement is written in the form of variations, and lasts approximately as long as the first four movements combined.
