Death, the heavy metal institution founded, produced and led by legendary guitarist Chuck Schuldiner, released the album Individual Thought Patterns in 1993 (the follow-up to their milestone Human). Expectations were high following the release of Human, but Schuldiner once again proved he could rise to the occasion. Individual Thought Patterns further refined the forward-thinking and progressive direction born with Human and included "The Philosopher", arguably the best song to ever come from the world of extreme metal and the most widely known to date.
